The Power of Positive Thinking – by Norman Vincent Peale. Mr. Peale’s books have been sloughed off by today’s society as fluff and meaningless. Conversations with God Book I – by Neale Donald Walsch. This is a series of books that Mark Douglas (Trading in the Zone) – Dr. Paula’s business partner, co-author, and husband, read every day. Both Dr. Paula and Mark worked together with Walsch over the years speaking together at conferences and attending Walsch’s private retreats as well. Walsch was a homeless alcoholic living on a park bench when he began talking with God about his situation. This series of books details those conversations and both Dr. Paula and Mark feel have great intrinsic value.

The Book of Runes – accompanied with Rune Stones. This edition explaining the ancient Gaelic use of stones to interpret symbols for life purposes is one of the best that Dr. Paula has reviewed. As someone of Irish heritage, Dr. Paula uses the Runes not only to tap into her ancestral lineage, but also to ask questions from the Universal Laws. You don’t have to be Irish to use this simply as fun, or as a gateway to a more serious approach to the fundamentals of spirituality as it applies to you.

Braveheart – although this is a Hollywood version of a real person, the message is the same. William Wallace didn’t set out to conquer the world; he was a simple man with simple goals. When he realized to accomplish his goals he had to embrace the large life picture, he jumped in with both feet and never turned back. It is the same mindset successful traders should have.

Cool Hand Luke – this is not a prison movie. It is a movie about men who are imprisoned and some who give up, except for one, Luke played by Paul Newman. His character is not a bad person, just someone who has lost sight of who they want to be. As he attempts to navigate the southern prison system, the warden tries to guide him reminding him to “get his mind right” on several occasions.

The Razor’s Edge – this is a movie based on the best-selling book by Somerset Maugham. A story of wealthy college-age young adults prior to the World Wars who thought their lives would be wonderful as their wealthy parents had set them up to do well. The main character does not feel comfortable going into brokerage or banking; his fiancée breaks up with him because she feels he is crazy to want to “find himself.” A strong lesson in living your life as you choose, no matter what those around you say, think, or do. ***** Dr. Paula.

City of Angels – a movie with a spell-binding soundtrack that goes perfectly with the spiritual message of believing and experiencing how we are always surrounded by angels. ***** Dr. Paula.

The Cokeville Miracle – Dr. Paula had never heard of this real-life incident and happened to watch the movie on a snowy winter afternoon one weekend on cable television. It is a movie about faith – those who doubt, those who believe, and those are not sure. It is surprising the movie was made at all; because it really happened in recent history. Society has shot it down as only a story of wishful thinking – it is not, it is true and real. A powerful message in believing what you believe without interference from other people’s opinions.

The Perfect Storm – Mark Douglas used this story, as does Dr. Paula in their coaching and workshops to explain this great correlation as to how all the signals may be right in front of you that the trade is over, or has deflated and to get out, cut your losses – and yet just like the fishermen in the movie when all the major storm weather signal data were in front of them to turn back they went forward into the storm never to return.
